Carol Pereira

I was born in New York City, in Washington Heights. A diverse neighborhood inspired an exploration into visual arts. It led to a BFA at Cooper Union and a MFA at the Yale School of Art. A Fulbright grant in India followed as well as a number of residency programs such as Skowhegan, The Atlantic Art Center, Yaddo, MacDowell, Art OMI, ACAC in Japan, and FACETS in Bangalore, India. Orchestrating performances in India, Japan, and the United States groups of participants were loosely choreographed to perform intimate, aggressive, or ridiculous actions and gestures in an effort to explore the translation of direction, the dynamic relationship between individual and group psychology, and the negotiation of personal space.
