Based on true stories and shot in Los Angeles and Palestine, Driving to Zigzigland explores the struggles of an Arab immigrant in post-9/11 America. It chronicles a day in the life of a Palestinian actor, Bashar (Bashar Da’as), who works as an LA cab driver to make ends meet. He has been typecast in an audition as an Al Qaeda terrorist and has 24 hours to make enough money to pay off his utility bills. For hours, the passengers in his cab vent their views on suicide bombers, George W. Bush, Cat Stevens, the war in Iraq, music and world geography. Bashar’s quest to make enough money to pay his bills seems destined for success until he must choose between his family and the Department of Homeland Security.
Free Afterparty until 12:30pm with Ticket Stub at Art in General, 79 Walker St, 6th Fl (b/w Broadway & Lafayette). Open Bar & *dj take 5* spinning hiphop, nu-jazz, soulful grooves - sponsored by Earseph Enterprises (www.earseph.com).
