The story of a famous Egyptian belly dancer of the early part of the 20th
century (d. 1928) and her rise to fame from an unknown ‘almah’ into a major
celebrity. Her name Bamba Kashshar means Frowning Pink. The film, which
launched the career of actress Nadia Al-Guindi, includes several belly-dance numbers
and songs The film is a kitsch melodrama that includes stylized elements of camp.
